New Superman FIRST Look: James Gunn Unveils David Corenswet As New Man of Steel

‘Superman’ writer-director James Gunn has unveiled the first official look at David Corenswet suited up as the Man of Steel. Although mostly hidden, the photo does seem to confirm that David Corenswet’s Superman will have the famous red underwear, which was absent on the DC Extended Universe Superman’s suit.

As soon as the first look arrived, fans were quick to spot Corenswet’s iconic red trunks. One fan wrote, “HE’S GOT THE TRUNKS!” Another one said, “Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed lol I turned my brightness all the way up and checked comments to see if anyone else noticed.”

Before Corenswet, only three actors have starred as Superman in its nearly 50-year big screen career: Christopher Reeve (1978-87), Brandon Routh (2006) and Henry Cavill (2013-2022). Corenswet is best known for his roles in Ryan Murphy’s shows such as The Politician and Hollywood.

Talking about exactly what he was looking for his Clark Kent, James Gunn earlier told Variety, “The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also an alien. It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”

Superman, also known as david corenswet or Kal-El, possesses a wide array of superhuman powers, typically including:

  1. Super Strength: Superman possesses immense physical strength, allowing him to lift heavy objects such as buildings, vehicles, and even planets.
  2. Invulnerability: Superman’s body is highly resistant to physical injury, allowing him to withstand bullets, explosions, and other forms of harm without sustaining serious damage.
  3. Flight: Superman can fly at tremendous speeds, often faster than the speed of sound or even light, enabling him to traverse great distances in a short amount of time.
  4. Super Speed: In addition to flying, Superman can move at superhuman speeds while on the ground, enabling him to react quickly to threats and perform feats such as running across water or catching bullets.
  5. Heat Vision: Superman can emit beams of intense heat energy from his eyes, which he can use to cut through objects or as a weapon against enemies.
  6. X-Ray Vision: Superman can see through solid objects using his X-ray vision, allowing him to perceive hidden threats or locate individuals in need of assistance.
  7. Super Hearing: Superman has highly acute hearing, enabling him to hear sounds from great distances or frequencies beyond the range of normal human hearing.
  8. Arctic Breath: Superman can exhale powerful blasts of freezing cold air, capable of creating ice formations or extinguishing fires.

These powers can vary slightly depending on the specific incarnation or storyline, but they are generally the core abilities associated with the character of Superman. Additionally, Superman is often portrayed as possessing heightened senses, advanced intelligence, and the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new challenges.

Last year, while speaking to Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav spoke highly of Gunn’s Superman film and hoped that the film would make a significant profit for all stakeholders. Zaslav said, “We got James Gunn and Peter Safran working very hard on DC, which is going to be a very big growth driver for this company. We are very bullish on DC. The Superman script first draft is done. Gunn is on a mission from god. It is a really good moment to prove out on DC what we got and how strong it is globally for long-term sustainable growth.”
